The Edge of Redemption
For Book Club Study Groups

1. How does setting play a role in this story? Is it an integral part of the narrative? Do you have a "special place" that has affected your life?
2. With all that each of the siblings went through in their childhoods, Darren seemed more able to avoid the instability that affected Emily and Stephanie. Why is this?
3. What was your initial reaction to Emily's rage when she punched her father in his casket? As you gained more insight into her past, did you realize Emily was still suffering from her past abuse or was it a surprise?
4. Emily married Aaron after knowing him only a short time. What do you think about this hasty decision? Could it really have been true love or was it just another escape? Compare it to her mother, Maureen's choice.
5. Tears of The Edge of Redemption is filled with revelations about Emily's life. As you read the book and each new secret was revealed, which one did you find most shocking or unbelievable?
6. All of the siblings are very different. Stephanie is strong-willed and independent. Emily is a dreamer, wounded and angry, keeping her rage inside until something triggers its release. Darren is the baby, once shy and protected by his sisters, but as he ages takes on a role of an adult. Which of the siblings do you most identify with and why?
