Menopause (1505 words) My complexion is pasty and dry, a
Sonoma Desert sunrise, ruddy with a tint of red. I realize I am a cactus, dry
with protrusions that sprout without warning, then rot and drop off without
reason. I do not want this visitor. I tried to block its entrance to my life
with moisturizers and exercise, advice and drugs. But it comes anyway, pockets
full of trashy gifts and discouragement.
Safety, First,
Even in a Parking Lot (Approximately 1500 words) Motorcycle safety
is THE most important thing to think about when taking up this fabulous
recreational sport. I should know, having had my big-butt hoisted from the back
seat of an Ultra-Glide one summer day, as my husband slowly backed into a
parking space. The spot was on a fairly steep incline. And he was stopped. I
was poised, as I often am, straight as an arrow, looking like Pee-Wee Herman in
my luxurious seat, all the while whistling along to a Willie Nelson song on the
radio.
